30th January, 2007

Our first event as a new team and we're delighted with our result, 7th place. We've learnt so much this week about Yngling racing and how we fit together as a team under pressure; which will be invaluable as the season becomes more competitive closer to the World Championships. Most of our results were within the top 10 and in the end we were only 2 points off 5th, as a new team to the class that's a great achievement and a solid base to progress from.
The best moment of the regatta was without a doubt our final race; the Medal Race. This is a new rule to the Olympics, a non-discardable race sailed by only the top 10 boats with double points, it's the race where the pressure is on and match racers excel as places are easily lost and made. Going into the race we had the opportunity to pick up 2 places to 6th or drop one to 9th and having spent the whole regatta in 8th place, we were determined to push up the results table.

It was a nail-biting race, with us battling it out with the French for first place and it looked to be their advantage rounding the final mark. However, a swift tactical move from Vix downwind and some expert kite trimming from Sue saw us sailing over the French and crossing the line to hear our first Yngling bullet on the line; 1st place!!
